Why Designing Quality Websites is so Important for Businesses

‍Design has always been at the forefront of what we do. Even though the bulk of our time is spent coding and programming and project managing - at the end of the day it always comes back to design. You could say we're a bit fanatical about it but in this case, I believe it's good to be fanatical.

Quality products (everything from tangible things to digital solutions) begin and end with great design. Design should influence all product decisions. Even fundamental business questions like what to build, or how to sell it, should be treated as design decisions. Design is not just important, it is everything.

GREAT DESIGN IS NOT EASY

Great design doesn’t just fly off the bat. It takes time and dedication and relentless attention to detail to produce good design and hence a quality product. Thanks to Apple's success, design is being taken much more seriously these days but in truth, most people do not appreciate the deep relationship between design and quality.

At Blue Beetle, we feel the same as Saul Bass did about wanting to make beautiful things. It takes more time and effort, but as a designer it's worth it. This is the way we want to live our lives, it's not about the money.

As a result, we sweat the details. We keep quality top of mind and are willing to spend what seems like an unreasonable amount of time addressing details. Yes it takes more time and yes it ends up costing more but this is what we care about.

Steve Jobs provides another good example of what we stand for as shown in this video.

Listen to the sincerity in his voice, this is Apple's secret. Don't ship junk. Decide to make things you'd be proud to recommend to your family and friends. Don't treat it as a business decision, treat it as a life decision.

QUALITY IS CONTAGIOUS

The good news is that quality is contagious. As Kyle Neath points out in the great blog post about relentless quality:

But just as broken windows are contagious, so is a dedication to quality.

The more you care about good design and pay attention to the details, the more any possible flaws will show up enabling you to fix them. And you’ll want to fix them because you want your product to shine.

As another legendary designer Charles Eames said:

The details are not the details. They make the design.
